168 Infantry, Company C Uniform Group from Private John A. Koenig 

 

John Albert Koenig was born in 1892 in Watertown, Wisconsin. He later moved to Winters, Michigan as a young man and owned and worked a dairy farm. When America enter WWI, Koenig enlisted in the army, serving in Co. “C” 168th Infantry Regiment, of the 41nd (Rainbow) Division. The Division served in France from February, 1918 to April of 1919. Their battles include Second Marne, Luneville Sector, Ourcq River, Chateau-Thierry Counter Offensive, St. Mihiel, Verdun, Champagne Woevre and Meuse-Argonne. The Division suffered heavy losses with more than 12,000 casualties in 264 days of combat.
