Rebecca Payne Lovett, 83, of Wrightsville, Georgia passed away at home on October 19, 2025. She was born in Clayton, Georgia on November 12, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Harly and Ola Payne of Milledgeville, Georgia. Rebecca was proceeded in death by her parents, and her brother, Dr. David Payne of Winder, Georgia as well as her husband of 59 years, Leon A. Lovett.
Rebecca “Becky” graduated from the Women’s College of Georgia (later Georgia College) for her first Bachelor’s degree. Rebecca had met her future husband while living in Milledgeville and they went on to date and were married in 1965 after her graduation.
Rebecca was a life long learner and achieved several master’s degrees. She served in a number of education leadership and teaching positions throughout her life. These included local Johnson County teacher, Laurens County Vice Principal, and the position she most loved, Georgia College Education professor. In this role she most influenced future teachers throughout the state. Rebecca ended her career due to health issues while she was in her 60s.
After a very accomplished career she would say her greatest accomplishment was her children and grandchildren. Not only did she love and enjoy their company but devoted much of her time to their education even outside of the classroom.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the many special nurses, sitters, friends and neighbors that have spent the past few years caring for Mom including Sylvia Taylor Jose, Victoria Fields, David Hall, Donnie Sweat, Susan Wood and many more.
