Prussian, Hanoverian Uhlan Pursuing a French Hussar in the Franco-Prussian War by Gustav Wie 

  Gustav Wie is a German artist that painted a number of military horse themed works in the 1860s-70s. Most surviving examples seem to be oil paintings on board mounted canvas. These works include “Army Camps in Southern Landscape”, “Cavalryman in a Winter Battle”, and the one I have, has been called “Two Cavalrymen in Battle”. This painting is a board mounted canvas       

 The subject is a Prussian, Hanoverian Uhlan pursuing a French Hussar in the Franco-Prussian War by Gustav Wie. The Franco-Prussian War subject and style of this painting seem to indicate it is from the 1870s considering the unrealistic depiction of the movement of the horses
